A continuing recovery of the labour market in the year 2014 2014-07-03

The early recovery of the labour market at the end of 2013 is strongly increasing in the beginning of 2014. As it appears from the statistical figures of the NSSO relating to the first quarter of 2014, for the first time since the end of 2011 the rate of employment has considerably risen, compared to the same period of the preceding year. The labour market has not only been able to take advantage of an increasing economic growth but also from a particularly mild winter.

The part-time work is on the rise

All in all, the number of jobs on March 31st 2014 was 0.4% higher than a year before. The work volume during the first quarter of 2014 has even increased by 0.9%, compared to the preceding year. The recovery of the labour market manifests itself most of all in a strong resurgence of the demand for manpower through temp jobs.

What strikes is the rise of part-time jobs. In the private sector (excluding the temp jobs), the loss of 15,000 full-time jobs is almost completely counterbalanced by an increase in part-time jobs (mostly 4/5 jobs). What is also remarkable is the fact that the rise manifests itself both in the male and the female working population.
